ANAMIKA KHANNA
Anamika's tryst with design and style began with the Damania
Fashion Award in 1995. The Damania Fashion Award jumpstarted
her career, and saw the beginning of the label "ANAMIKA KHANNA".
Her major achievements include:
» an induction into the Damania Fashion Hall of Fame,
» the Exports Council Award,
» the Texcellence Award for Outstanding Boutique (Female),
» the Kingfisher Designer of the Year Award 2004,
» the Marudhar Gaurav Award 2007 from the Rajasthan Foundation, Kolkata
Chapter
» The FICCI Ladies Organization's Young Woman Achiever's Award 2006.
She was nominated at the MTV Youth Icon Awards 2003 as the
Breakthrough Designer of the Year, at the M TV Lycra Style Awards
2004 as the Designer of the Year, at the F Awards as the Designer of
the Year (Women - Pret), 2004 and received a nomination at the
MTV Style Awards 2005 for the Designer Of The Year.
She was also featured in fine Elle 50 Style Icons of the Year, 2006
and in the Verve Power Issue 2006. She has been invited to showcase
her collection at the Will's Lifestyle India Fashion Week Grand Finale
AW 08 edition again this year.
Following closely on the heels of the success of her show at the
Lakme India Fashion Week Grand Finale 2004 was an overwhelming
response at the London Fashion Week 2005. This was followed with
an exclusive contract with British major, Harrods's and coverage in
magazines like Glamour (Paris), Vogue (October 2005), (U.K) and
Vogue Best Buy.
In 2003, as part of Bridal Asia, Anamika was invited to Pakistan
along with two other "fashion gurus" to showcase their exquisite
bridal collection there. In fact it was the first time thai Indian
designers were provided with an opportunity to showcase their
collections in Pakistan.
With color, craft and texture as her forte, trousseau wear is
naturally her area of specialization. Her look is global with
ethnic Indian craft as her mainstay. Anamika's new international
label, "Ana Mika" which has been showcasing for four seasons
at the London Fashion Week and at trade shows in Paris, Singapore,
New York and Los Angeles, retails through about 80 stores in
countries like U.K, U.S.A. Japan, Europe etc. The year 2007 came
with an invitation to showcase the brand at the Paris Fashion Week,
the first for any Indian designer. She also retails through her flagship
store in Kolkata, Carma and Ogaan (New Delhi), Ensemble and Kimaya
(Mumbai), Evoiuzione (Chennai) and Elahe (Hyderabad), in India,
to name a few.

APRIL IS MAGAZINE MONTH
April is Magazine Month, a time to celebrate the global network of
Rotary's official magazines, which provide valuable information to
1.2 million Rotarians.
The Rotary World Magazine Press consists of 32 magazines
from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe
that inform, inspire, and entertain in 23 languages. In addition to
The Rotarian, Rotary's English language flagship publication, it offers
magazines such as Vida Rotaria (Argentina), Rotary in Bulgaria, and
The Rotary-no-Tomo, Japan.
The Rl Bylaws require all club members to subscribe to The Rotarian
or a Rotary regional magazine.
Rotary leaders, district governors, and club presidents are encouraged
to support magazine editors in their country or region by submitting
story ideas, promoting readership, encouraging timely subscription
payments, and assisting with other communication efforts.
Look for a new international supplement edition in the pages of
The Rotarian early in the 2008-09 Rotary year. The eight-page
supplement, to be produced for all official Rotary magazines, will
highlight Rotary's work on the global stage.

OUR AMBASSADOR...
To commemorate World Health Day on 7th April, 2008, Rl District
3290 organised a "Health Workshop" hosted by our Club at
Rotary Sadan. PP Rtn Dr S K Sharma was the keynote speaker.
He spoke on "Global Warming,"
SPEECH

AN ANALYSIS OF BUDGET 2008
Addressed by PP Rtn Shyam Sundar Kanoria at our Weekly Meeting
on March 18,2008
Past President Rtn S S Kanoria,s analysis of the Union Budget
2008 was an enlightening session for the gathering. It was not a
political analysis but a rather detailed and simple overview of the
fiscal situation of our contemporary times.
Rtn Kanoria stated that the Finance Minister Mr Chidambaram, had
covered almost all aspects of fiscal economy but some aspects had
been paid less attention. The policies were laid out on the basis
of Economic Survey.
The good features of the Budget were:
* Tax concessions
* Increased allocations for health, agriculture, education
* Concessions on reverse mortgage and Parents' health insurance
It seemed to the speaker that the main concerns while preparing the
budget had been:
* Giving a boost to agricultural production so that it can form
2.2% of the FDI.
* Rs. 60,000 crores had been earmarked for wheat production.
* The Pay Commission implementation burden - subsidies on food
and fertilizers.
* Reverse poor infrastructure! growth -roads, power, ports.
* Rise in oil prices and subsequent losses.
According to the speaker the 'Chidambaram touch' was welt reflected
in the Fringe Benefit touch of last year's budget. This year the
Rationalisation is a reflection of the same. The Amendment of
Section 271{1) which deals with penalties is a case in point. Willful
misrepresentation will entail a penalty of 100 - 300%. The worst
part about this is that it will be executed with retrospective effect
from April 1, 1989.
The basic outlook is:
* Effect due to US recession and world economy.
* Fiscal and revenue deficit.
* Buoyancy in revenues.
* Growth rate may be slower.
* Vacillation in the stock market
* Election of the state & central governments
Overall it seemed to Rtn Kanoria that we are faced with a difficult
year ahead. But since Indian economic is fundamentally strong,
we will continue to progress more rapidly than the rest of the world.
- Rtn Satarupa
